NFL Football Betting For Newbies, from Bullseye-Sports.com

NFL football betting  is by far the most popular area of the gaming industry. The purpose of this article is to familiarize the new bettor with the different aspects of  NFL football betting . With that in mind, we’ll stick with the basic elements you’ll need to know.

Normally, when betting against a point spread, you bet $110 to win $100. This is shown as – 110. The extra $10 is known as the “vig” or the “juice”. There are sports books out there that offer specials, such as “reduced juice” (- 105, for example). – 105 would mean that you’d be betting only $105 to win $100.

NFL football betting  involves a betting line, also known as a point spread. For example, let’s say Miami is playing against Buffalo. Miami is listed as – 7, which means Miami is the favorite. Buffalo would then be listed as + 7, which makes them the underdog. If you place a bet on Miami at – 7, then Miami must win the game by more than seven points in order for you to win your bet. If you place a bet on Buffalo at + 7, then Buffalo must either win the game or lose by less than seven points in order for you to win your bet. If Miami wins by exactly seven points, then the game is a “push” or “no action” and everyone who wagered on one of the teams gets back their original wager amount.

You can certainly see where there would be much more opportunity to win by betting on Buffalo, since they don’t even have to win the game in order for you to win your wager. If you bet on Miami, on the other hand, they could win the game and you could still lose your wager if they do not win by more than seven. This is why many  NFL football betting  experts wager on nothing but underdogs.

You may also see a Total listed for the game. For this example, let’s say there is a Total listed at 43. The total is the number of combined points scored by both teams in the game. If you think the two teams will combine to score more than the posted total of 43, then you would wager “Over the Total”. If you think the two teams will combine to score less than the posted total of 43, then you would wager “Under the Total”. If the total score ends up being exactly 43, then the total is a “push” or “no action” and everyone who wagered on the total gets back their original wager amount.

For this example, let’s say Miami won the game, 27 – 17. If you placed a bet on Miami at – 7, you’d subtract seven points from Miami’s score, making it Miami 20, Buffalo 17. If you placed a bet on Buffalo at + 7, you’d add seven points to Buffalo’s score, making it Miami 27, Buffalo 24. Either way, anyone who wagered on Miami won and anyone who wagered on Buffalo lost.

The actual final score of the game was Miami 27, Buffalo 17. That’s a total of 44 points. The posted total line was 43. So, bettors who wagered on “Over the Total” won their bets since 44 is over, or higher than, 43. Bettors who wagered “Under the Total” lost their wagers.

Those are the basics. I hope the examples above helped those of you who are new to the world of NFL football betting. You’re now ready to begin your own  NFL football betting . Good luck.

How To Draft Your Own Fantasy Football Team

April 7, 2007

Author: Joseph Kenny

If you have been considering starting your own fantasy football there are several aspects of which you should be aware. Fantasy football has significantly grown in popularity in the last few years and there are now a number of different ways you can get involved with fantasy football. If you’re interested in winning some of the larger prizes that are up for grabs, you will need to consider joining one of the fantasy football teams offered by several web sites as well as quite a few football magazines. Most people; however, opt instead to join a small informal league simply for the fun of the game. This type of league can be organized with just about anyone. Such leagues are frequently organized with relatives, co-workers or friends. If you are drafting your first league it is important to remember there is really no wrong or right way to do it because the most important thing is to have fun.

First, there will need to be teams involved in order to draft a league. Generally, a league can have anywhere from eight up to sixteen teams. The number of teams you have in your league will be up to you and what is available in your locality; however, be sure to give some strong thought to the number of teams in your league because it can be extremely important. Too few teams in your league will reduce the level of competition while too many teams will make it difficult for each owner to find enough good players. Try to keep the number of your teams equal; however, for the sake of your schedule.

Regardless of the number of teams you decide upon, those teams will need to be divided into divisions. The number of divisions may depend on the number of teams in your league. Many people; however, find that 3 divisions work fine.

You will also need to decide upon a commissioner. A lot of thought should be put into the selection of your commissioner as well, as this role is critical to the success of your league. This should be someone all of the other owners trust implicitly. He, or she, will be in charge of such things as the draft, scoring the games, setting up the league, etc. This can be a very demanding job with a lot of responsibilities. It may prove prudent to set up a co-commissioner position as well.

When setting up your regular season, try to plan for around thirteen or so games. Remember, this is excluding your playoffs, which will typically last another three weeks or so. The general rule of thumb is for your season to not last longer than a regular NFL season.

Your drafts may depend on the type of league you set up. Some leagues only hold an initial draft when first setting up the league and then for rookies after that. Regardless, when first setting up your league you will need to have a draft to select players. For this a draft order will be selected, typically before the draft itself is held. If you opt for an auction format instead, remember that each owner must be given a salary cap. Of course, this can be any amount you decide upon. The main key is that each team must have their roster filled out; generally with about 15 players per team. From this the teams will need to select their starting players, usually around 7 each. A starting lineup will usually include one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, one place kicker and one defense.

NFL Football Betting

April 7, 2007

Author: Jake Truman

If you bet on sports, there’s a good chance that you bet on football. Football betting accounts for about 40% (estimated) of all sports betting annually. A good portion of that goes into the NFL. Every season people rush to their favorite sports book off or online to make a wager. One of the most common wagers in NFL football is the parlay bet. People love winning big and the parlays give you the opportunity to win many times your original wager. However, many NFL football bettors walk away with losing tickets.

Can you make money betting on the NFL? Any professional sports bettor will sound off with a resounding yes answer. It’s been widely estimated and quoted that only 1% of sports bettors win on a consistent basis. If this is accurate, why is it so? One reason could be a lack of understanding of the game of NFL football. Another reason could be the lack of understanding of what a line really is.

If you are finding yourself constantly picking the losing team or just coming up short for a nice parlay win, give point totals a try. Many feel that betting on totals is a much easier game than picking sides. When you bet a totals line, you are betting on the total number of points scored between both teams during the game (regular time and over time). For instance, if the line was 38.5, you could wager on the under or over. Bet on the over and you want both teams to score 39 points or more—so you win. Bet on the under and you want both teams to score 38 points or less.

There are sports bettors out there who make a living off of totals lines. Some feel that there is less handicapping time involved as well. This means you can handicap more game, look for sweet lines and spend your time doing other things. It’s also possible to bet totals lines for just the quarters or the halves. For example, if a totals line is 40, the under/over for the first half might be 20. Furthermore, the line for the first quarter might be 8 or so. Typically the second and fourth quarter lines are larger than the first and third quarter lines.

The next time you sit down to make a wager on NFL football, give some thought to the totals line. It just might swing you into the winning column. If you are already a winning NFL sports bettor who’s not playing totals much, check them out. You should be able to add to your profits. There’s a reason why football betting is so big. It’s fun and profitable.

Football – The King of Sports

April 7, 2007

Author: Richard Wise

It is over one hundred years since FIFA, the  Fédération Internationale de Football Association, was formed in Paris, France, in 1904.  This was really the start of the organised international game, and they must have got it right, because the ever increasing interest, in world football, is truly amazing.

From humble beginnings, the game has increased in popularity, to become the sporting phenomenon it is today.  If horse racing is the sport of kings, then football is the king of sports!  Every four years a national team are crowned world champions to the delight of their loyal subjects.

Since its inception in 1930, the World Cup has been won, in almost equal measure, by European and South American countries.  However, talented players are emerging from other continents, Australia, Africa, Asia, and even the United States, who hosted the major tournament in1994.  Surely, it will not be long before a team from one of these other nations, comes out on top.

Football clubs, such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and many others, reflect their host cities and have become household names, far beyond their city confines.  The most famous, of the many professional players, are instantly recognisable.  The sport has attracted rich, and successful men as chairmen, and the best players and managers command earnings comparable with those of pop singers and movie stars.

Soccer’s popularity has developed, not just from fanatical supporters flooding through turnstiles into enormous arenas.  Vast sums of money are paid for  live television and other rights. As a result, important games are watched by millions of armchair fans, many of whom subscribe to satellite, and related media services.   Air travel has become less expensive and more accessible, so that supporters can fly to support their teams, wherever they are playing.  International football stars, frequently sign for clubs outside their home countries, and command massive transfer fees.

There is no doubt that international football is a mammoth business.  From gate money to mass media rights, sponsorships to replica team clothing, a sporting colossus has arisen.  Children, and grownups as well, want to wear the colours of their preferred players or clubs.  They kick balls around in sports fields, parks, wasteland and quiet streets.  Young people practice and aspire to develop that extra bit of expertise, that would catapult them into a life of fame and riches. Most will go on to achieve other things but occasionally, a boy wonder will appear, to dazzle and entertain, with the world at his feet!

How Live Football Streams Are Achieved

April 7, 2007

Author: David Walker

As a self-confessed football obsessive, I need to be able to access live broadcasts of the top games wherever I am. Sometimes it’s not always possible to find somewhere that shows the particular match I want to watch but thanks to technological advancements I can now watch almost any match I wish through a live football stream.

With the help of the internet and some networking facilities, I am able to watch streaming live football via my computer in the office and my laptop should I be stuck in a hotel room somewhere. Being able to watch any one of a number of football matches being broadcast on a particular day is all well and good, but this article tries to explain how it’s done for the more inquisitive natures out there.

To understand how live football streams work, you first need to understand a little bit about networking. In its most simple form, networking is one computer exchanging data with another computer. To be really simplistic, there isn’t a lot of difference between this and mailing a letter.

The first computer addresses a piece of information to another computer and then sends it across the cable that connects computers to one another. The second computer checks the addresses of all of the messages coming by and reads only the messages addressed to it.

Live football stream is achieved with the help of streaming media. This concept is not as foreign as it sounds and it simply acts like an ordinary television or a radio broadcast that streams live football matches. When you wish to view a certain live football stream, a programme called a “streaming media server” breaks up the desired file into pieces called “packets”.

These packets race across the Internet one at a time and get reassembled back into your computer the same way. Providing you have a fast internet connection and the server is not overloaded, the live football streams will begin playing instantly on your PC and the file size is generally small.

Unfortunately, like most good things, there is a drawback to using football streams to get your fix of live action. Since it is live and should be delivered just in time across the potentially unpredictable internet network, quality is sacrificed in order to enhance speed and performance. Even though the main use of streaming video is web delivery, this type is not suited for local presentations.

To view live football steams, your computer requires a special program, called a streaming media plug-in. These plug-in programs are generally free and can be downloaded from the internet.

The difference between downloading video from the internet and watching a live football stream is that the user doesn’t need to wait for the entire media file to download before it can get viewed. While the quality may not be perfect, a live football stream appears to begin to play almost instantly.
